SHSU Police CORE Team receives new award

The Sam Houston State University Police Department CORE Team received the first SHSU Cane Award at the 21st Annual Sammy Awards.

The Sammy Awards is a product of SHSU and the Department of Student Activities. These awards recognize a number of organizations and students for their contributions to the community and for their leadership abilities.

The SHSU PD CORE Team is one of the first to receive the Cane Award. It was created as a 'new' special recognition category for non-student organizations for outstanding contributions in the areas of spirit, tradition and/or service to the university. CORE was chosen because of the overall service provided to the university as a whole, in a positive manner.

The CORE Team is made up of officers who volunteer their time and efforts to what they call "Community OutReach Efforts" or CORE. According to Chief Kevin Morris, these officers took this initiative upon themselves and have created some amazing programming for students, staff and faculty.
