Texas A&M PD Lieutenant promotion


The University Police Department is pleased to announce that Sergeant Kary Shaffer has been promoted to Lieutenant. Kary will be responsible for the administrative and managerial duties of the Patrol Division.

Kary has been employed with the department for 23 years. He has held positions of leadership within the Field Operations and the Support Services Divisions throughout his career. For the past 2 years, Kary has served as the department’s Training Coordinator. He has also served as an adjunct instructor for the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) Law Enforcement Training Center for the past 10 years.

Kary is a recipient of the Texas A&M University Police Department’s “Officer of the Year” award. He has also been selected as the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Officer of the Year four times and is a two time recipient of the Department’s Life Saving Award.

Kary is a native of Sour Lake, Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Science ‘95 degree from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science degree from Sam Houston State University. He and his wife Katy ’15, have been married for a little over one year. Kary has three daughters, Kourtney, 18 (a member of the fighting Texas Aggie class of 2020), Kylee, 14 and Kanyn, 2 months old.
